Automatic cellular continuity
When Wi-Fi is not the path, a Rivo terminal with an active SIM moves the authorization onto cellular on its own. Staff do not change a setting, and the customer does not wait. The sale continues on the SIM.
On-terminal health check
The terminal reviews its own path: whether Wi-Fi is carrying traffic, whether an active SIM should take the authorization, whether the connection responds, and whether a restart will keep the terminal responsive. In most situations it completes that adjustment itself, confirms the path and returns to the sale.
Refund controls on the device
Refund fraud is a refund that was never a genuine sale. Every RapidCents terminal applies controls that stand between that refund and the merchant account, so a refund has to be genuine before it leaves the device.
Location lock
When the merchant turns it on, the terminal authorizes only inside a set radius of the business. Outside that radius it locks, including when the terminal is taken from the premises, so it stops taking payments.
Multi-carrier SIM
The SIM is not a card locked to AT&T, and it is not a card locked to T-Mobile. It is a universal SIM that attaches to the strongest signal available, whichever carrier that is. Several terminals in one business can each sit on a different network at the same time.

For businesses in the USA
A direct answer for a business in the USA: the workflow, the limit, and what to confirm next.
The payment workflow
Help a US merchant choose fixed, portable or app-capable devices by sale location, receipts and existing software. Use a decision table linked to category and Rivo pages. In practice, verified onboarding and a test sale rather than implying all hardware is universally plug-and-play. Confirm eligibility, presentment currency, settlement currency and the enabled payment methods on the USA merchant account before quoting them. An illustrative amount is an example, not a fee or a funding promise. Payment Terminals does not, by itself, prove delivery or win a dispute.
The problem and the limit
The practical view covers provisioning, certifications, tamper checks, updates and replacement support. Keep separate model capabilities from common reporting. The workflow should require specifications for printers, batteries, connectivity and apps; a marketing image or device-family label is not sufficient evidence. Confirm eligibility, presentment currency, settlement currency and the enabled payment methods on the USA merchant account before quoting them. An illustrative amount is an example, not a fee or a funding promise. Payment Terminals does not, by itself, prove delivery or win a dispute.
What to confirm
State the approved US model/method matrix, ownership/rental terms, connectivity charges and warranty conditions. In practice, setup and USD settlement separately. Verify PIN debit, wallets and POS connections for each model and acquiring configuration before claiming availability. Confirm eligibility, presentment currency, settlement currency and the enabled payment methods on the USA merchant account before quoting them. An illustrative amount is an example, not a fee or a funding promise. Payment Terminals does not, by itself, prove delivery or win a dispute.
Questions about Payment Terminals
Which terminal should I choose?
Countertop for fixed lanes, mobile for tableside or field, smart when you need apps on device.
What happens when Wi-Fi is not the path?
With an active SIM, the terminal moves the sale onto cellular by itself. Staff do not switch networks. The health check confirms that path and can restart the terminal when that is what keeps it responsive. If there is no Wi-Fi and no cellular path at all, store-and-forward still depends on the device and its configuration, and your advisor confirms what applies to your account.
How does the terminal treat a refund?
Refund controls sit on the device. A refund that was never a genuine sale has to clear those controls before it leaves the terminal and reaches the merchant account.
What happens if a terminal leaves the business?
With location lock turned on, the terminal authorizes only inside the radius set around the business. Outside that radius it locks and stops taking payments.
Can I buy or lease hardware?
Both options are available. Your advisor will outline total cost of ownership.
How are firmware updates handled?
Updates deploy remotely during low-traffic windows with minimal staff action.
What do I need in the store before a terminal will work?
A power source and a network connection. Countertop models take Ethernet, with Wi-Fi beside it. A Rivo handheld with an active SIM moves the sale onto cellular on its own when Wi-Fi is not the path. If the lane is integrated with a POS, the register and the terminal need to reach each other on the same network. Encryption keys are injected remotely, so nothing cryptographic is configured on site.
Can I use my own terminal from another processor?
Usually not. Terminals are cryptographically keyed to a processor, so a device from another provider cannot simply be repointed at RapidCents. Your advisor will confirm whether your model can be re-injected, and otherwise recommend the closest equivalent device.
Which RapidCents terminal should I choose in the USA?
For a business in the USA, compare approved categories/models by workflow, receipt, connection and software requirements. This depends on the approved USA account setup and does not remove the merchant's own records or dispute duties.
Can I buy, rent or reuse an existing terminal?
For a business in the USA, state US options, provisioning rules, ownership, replacement and return terms. This depends on the approved USA account setup and does not remove the merchant's own records or dispute duties.
Do all terminals accept the same payment methods?
For a business in the USA, provide model/account-specific support, separating contactless, chip, debit and keyed channels plus enrollment requirements. This depends on the approved USA account setup and does not remove the merchant's own records or dispute duties.
