How is hosted checkout different from a payment link?
A payment link is a URL you send to one customer for a specific amount, created in the dashboard and tracked as open, paid or expired. Hosted checkout is a page your application creates a session for programmatically, as the last step of your own cart or form. Same reduction in PCI scope, different point of origin.
Does the customer leave my website?
With redirect checkout, yes: they move to a RapidCents-hosted URL and return to your success or cancel page afterwards. An iframe embed keeps the page visually inside your site. Redirect is recommended when the simplest PCI scope is the priority, since card entry never touches your domain at all.
What happens if a customer closes the page mid-payment?
The session expires rather than staying open indefinitely, which limits the exposure of an abandoned cart. Expired sessions arrive as webhook events, so a remarketing or follow-up flow can act on them. Order state should follow the webhook, not the browser.
Can I use hosted checkout for more than product sales?
Yes. Common uses include a donation page with preset amounts, an event registration fee collected after a form submit, and an invoice balance paid from an email call-to-action. Anything that needs one amount collected once fits a hosted session.
