Stored payment methods

Keep customer payment methods on file without holding card data

The Secure Card Vault stores a customer's tokenized payment methods against their record, so staff can charge a returning customer and customers can check out again without re-entering a card. RapidCents holds the credential; the vault holds the token. A customer can keep more than one method with a default, the authorization to store it is recorded, roles decide who may charge a stored method, and expired or removed methods are cleaned out of the record.

  • Card on file, safely
  • Faster repeat checkout
  • Permissioned access

Card credentials sit in the RapidCents vault rather than in merchant software, with a terminal on the desk for new captures.
  • PCI DSS Level 1
  • SOC 2 Type II
  • Canadian support
  • Interchange-plus available
  • All major card brands: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Interac debit

  4. The customer can be sent a link to update the method.

  5. Expired methods are refreshed or removed.

Questions about Secure Card Vault

Do we store the actual card?

No. The vault holds a token; the credential itself stays with RapidCents.

Can customers update their own card?

Yes, they can be sent a secure link to replace the stored method.

What about expired cards?

Account Updater refreshes stored credentials so charges do not fail on expiry alone.

Can a phone order be taken from a stored method?

Yes. That is one of the reasons the vault exists: a back-office or phone team charges the method already authorized on the record, so nobody reads a card number aloud or writes one down.

How is the vault different from Customer Profiles?

The profile is the whole record: payments, refunds, disputes, subscriptions, notes and references. The vault is the set of stored payment methods attached to that record, and the permissions that control charging them.

Can my software store and charge methods through the API?

Yes. Methods are tokenized on a RapidCents surface and then charged from your software through REST APIs and signed webhooks, with the same permission rules that apply to staff in the dashboard.

Is there a charge for keeping cards on file?

The vault is part of the RapidCents account rather than a per-card subscription. Processing pricing is quoted on the account, interchange-plus or bundled, and varies with volume, card mix and configuration.
