Careers

Working at RapidCents means building payment infrastructure merchants depend on every trading day, where a bug in settlement is somebody’s payroll. Roles span platform engineering, terminal and POS integration, risk and underwriting, and merchant support. The constraints are specific: money movement is asynchronous and reversible, so retries have to be idempotent, and a webhook that arrives twice cannot charge anyone twice. Every merchant-facing surface ships in English and French, so language is a product constraint. Currently open roles are listed on the jobs board.

  • Payments engineering
  • Terminal and POS integration
  • Merchant support and onboarding
  • Risk and underwriting

In detail

  • Payments engineering

Gateway, APIs, tokenization and the settlement pipeline, where correctness and idempotency matter more than velocity, and where a retry that charges twice is a worse outcome than a retry that fails loudly.

  • Terminal and POS integration

Making a device, a point of sale and a gateway agree on one transaction across tip adjustment, partial refund, void versus refund, batch close and the timeout that leaves the network and the terminal disagreeing.

  • Merchant support and onboarding

Reading statements, running migrations and training staff for businesses that cannot afford a bad cutover, which means knowing what a stored card file is before promising to move one.

  • Risk and underwriting

Assessing merchant risk under anti-money-laundering obligations and card network rules: identity, beneficial ownership, sanctions screening and the categories a payment provider cannot support.

  • Bilingual by requirement

Every merchant-facing surface, from receipts to the dashboard to this website, exists in English and French, so language is a product constraint rather than a translation task at the end.

  • The domain the work teaches

Interchange categories, PCI scope and SAQ levels, the dispute lifecycle and settlement timing. It is specific knowledge, and it is the reason payments people tend to stay in payments.

Questions about Careers

Which locations do you hire into?

RapidCents Inc. is at 515 Consumers Road, Unit 210, North York, Ontario, with a United States address at 43300 Southern Walk Plaza, #166, Ashburn, Virginia. Say where you are and how you expect to work when you apply — a payment platform runs against merchants across the country, so time zone and language coverage matter to a team.

Do I need previous payments experience?

It helps, and it is not the only route in. The domain is specific — interchange categories, PCI scope and questionnaire levels, the dispute lifecycle, settlement timing — and it is learned rather than assumed. What does not substitute for it is a casual attitude to correctness, because a retry that charges twice is a worse outcome than one that fails loudly.

How much of the work is greenfield?

Less than you might hope. Systems and applications are built in-house and run against merchants who cannot stop trading while you ship, so most work is change under load. Developers are trained on OWASP secure coding guidance, development, quality assurance and security review the same change before it ships, and changes are logged under change control.

Which roles need French?

Everything a merchant sees exists in English and French — receipts, the dashboard, documentation and this site — so support, content and product work happens in both languages daily rather than at translation time. Say which languages you work in when you apply, including whether you write in them or only speak them.

What are the security expectations on staff?

Multi-factor authentication is required, not offered. Internal systems are reached over VPN that exposes a limited selection of systems rather than the environment as a whole, access is granted by role so a role carries what its work requires and no more, and network access and activity are logged. Office networks are kept separate from platform environments, with no wireless access to the platform.

There is nothing posted for my discipline — should I still write?

Yes. Use the contact route, name the discipline and describe the kind of problem you want to work on. A note showing you understand what settlement timing or underwriting actually involves reads differently from a generic one, and it is easier to hold on to when a role opens.
