Payment processing, POS systems and card machines by industry

Merchants do not all need the same payment setup: one business searches for a POS system at the counter, another for a portable card machine in the field, payment processing costs, or an online payment gateway for checkout. Start with how your industry gets paid, then compare the hardware, channels, fees and integration that fit that workflow.

Start with the words merchants already use

Merchants search for a POS system, a card machine, payment processing or an online gateway depending on how they get paid. RapidCents matches hardware, checkout, billing and integrations to that workflow rather than selling one generic merchant package.

  • POS system

For a counter or service point that needs payments connected to staff and operations.

  • Credit and debit card machine

For a counter, mobile service, or field workflow where accepting cards is the main job.

  • Payment processing

For comparing fees, deposits, channels, and merchant-account support.

  • Online payment gateway

For checkout, payment links, recurring billing, and ecommerce integrations.

Frequently asked questions

My industry is not listed. Can RapidCents still process for me?

Usually, yes. The industry pages describe the acceptance patterns RapidCents sees most often; they are not a list of the only businesses it serves. The Acceptable Use Policy is the document that says which activities RapidCents will not process for and which need prior approval. If yours is not named anywhere, ask before you apply.

Is the pricing different by industry?

The pricing model is the same — interchange-plus, with the markup printed as its own line — but the interchange itself varies with the card mix and the way a transaction is taken, and both differ by industry. A restaurant’s rate and a wholesaler’s rate differ because their customers’ cards and their channels differ, not because the schedule does.

Which industries face extra underwriting or a reserve?

Those where the card networks see elevated chargeback risk: deferred delivery, subscriptions, travel, high average tickets. The KYC policy and clause C.7 of the Services Agreement describe when a reserve may be required and how it is held. The industry page says where that applies.

Can one account serve several locations or several brands?

Several locations, yes — the multi-location pages explain how reporting and deposits are organised. A second brand or a materially different line of business must be disclosed and approved under clause G.1 of the Services Agreement before it processes on the account.
